Adam.com  The site contains descriptions of treatments and therapies; news about men's, women's, and children's health; and interactive tools that go beyond assessing basic body mass or calorie needs.  The site also offers columns with pediatrician Dr. Alan R. Greene and outdoor health expert Dr. Paul Auerbach. Auerbach's comprehensive--and unusual--"Outdoor Health" section includes tips on how to adequately prepare for any type of outdoor journey.

Buying Medical Products Online Created by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, this page offers information to help consumers determine whether a site that sells drugs and other medical products is legitimate. It also tells consumers how to spot health fraud and explains the problems associated with using foreign sites.

CBS HealthWatch Includes general health news, 22 "channels" with features and related resources, and a library containing a medical dictionary, drug directory, a collection of articles on topics A to Z, a guide to self-care and first aid, and related sites. My Health Manager is a free service that allows users to create and monitor a personal health profile.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention An excellent resources for topical health information as well as data and statistics.

 Climate Effects on Human Health  
ClinicalTrials.gov This site makes it easy to find information about clinical trials for a wide range of diseases and conditions.  There are also pages that explain clinical trials and why they may be helpful; what is involved in participating; appropriate questions to ask; and the process of new drug development. The site has links to drug information and health information sites as well.
Diagnostic Tests Part of the Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide. Select a test by body system or by name from the pulldown menu. Find out what the test is, how to prepare for it, what happens during the test, what risks there are, what to do after the test, and how long before the test results are available.
Doctor's Guide to the Internet  
Dr. Koop.com Former Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, opens his website with, "The best prescription is knowledge."  To that end, his site provides a wealth of information, including news on clinical trials, topical articles, a drug interaction check, and links to local health services. 
DrugFacts.com This site offers a large amount of free reference and professional resources for pharmacists and patients. The most important of these are the full text of Drug Facts, Drug Facts Abridged, Medfacts, and The Guide to Popular Natural Products. 
Family Doctor Health information from the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Food and Drug Administration This award-winning website is a gold mine of health information, especially about the products that the FDA regulate.
Globalhealth.gov This new Website from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is geared toward illuminating the connection between domestic and international health issues. The site reviews HHS's work in these areas and offers useful pointers to data resources, international travel information, reports and publications, and more. Both the general public and researchers and medical professionals should find this a useful bookmark.

Healthfinder "A free gateway to reliable consumer health and human services information developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Healthfinder® can lead you to selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public."
HealthGate This site offers health tips and an alphabetical listing of conditions and concerns. A unique feature is an alphabetical, searchable list of more than 400 Medical Tests, which provides outlines of patient information on lab tests, including average cost, indications, procedures, contraindications, patient preparation, special instructions, techniques, and normal findings.
Health Web At present, over 70 subjects are in the main directory, and over 40 of these provide links to sites covering health issues from AIDS to Medical Informatics to Women's Health.  Access is by subject, and what makes the site powerful is its selectivity, which distinguishes it as one of the better starting points for health and medicine related Internet sites.
Hospice Net Information on services (finding a hospice, asking the right questions, etc.), and info specifically for patients (pain control, palliative care,
etc.), and for caregivers and the bereaved.

Lupus Foundation of America Commonly asked questions and current information about the causes, symptoms, testing, and treatment of lupus. Health forums, advocacy suggestions, and links to research sites are included.

Under Consumer Topics try links to information on over 100 headache-related subjects such as acupuncture and oxygen therapy. Portions of the site are available in Spanish.
National Institutes of Health  
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Information about work-related diseases and injuries, and how to prevent them.  Topic reports include agricultural safety and health, indoor air quality, noise and hearing protection, respirator information, and violence (occupational). The Certified Equipment List, Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards, and twelve other databases are also available.

This browsable site provides both medical professionals and pain sufferers with information on the treatment and management of pain, specifically those associated with Cancer Pain, Interventional Pain Management, Migraine/Headache Pain, Regional Anesthesia, and Perioperative Pain. Each pain category is defined in simple terms along with an annotated directory on the topic. In addition, the site provides access to pain-related news, resources, clinic locations, a pain library, and much more. Searchable.

Patient Advocate Foundation Helps patients resolve disputes with insurers, employers, health care providers, and creditors. The National Financial Resources Guidebook for Patients is searchable by state and category of help.

Chemotherapy and You: A Guide to Self-Help During Cancer Treatment A booklet for patients who are receiving chemotherapy for cancer. Imaginis   This site presents information about the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of breast cancer. The professional pages include online journals, practice guidelines, and teaching materials. Links to MEDLINE and the National Cancer Institute provide further information. Discussion groups and a free newsletter are available. The glossary, current news about women's health, and explanations of medical procedures will help patients understand their treatment options and make informed decisions.

Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law Web site of nonprofit organization devoted to advocacy for the legal rights of those with mental disabilities. The site contains substantial information on the legal aspects of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), aging, disabled children, fair housing, mental health care, and advance directives. The site offers frequent alerts on new legislation and court cases relating to mental health law.
Mental Help Includes news, a glossary of mental health terms, a symptoms list, info on common disorders and treatment, an archive of previous articles, and help in finding treatment.  It also includes resources for professionals.  All of this is keyword searchable.
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill  Extremely useful central repository for news, policy, legislation, studies, and frequently asked questions about mental illness.

Allrecipes.com This site has recipes, menu ideas, meal preparation tips, cooking terms, and more. Divided into cookbook chapters: appetizer, barbeque, beef, bread, cake, chicken, Christmas, cookie, ethnic, holiday recipes, etc., with special diet recipes including diabetic; dairy-, egg-, gluten-, and sugar-free; vegan; and vegetarian. Home Food Safety The American Dietetic Association provides information about cooking and storing food safely as well as keeping food preparation areas clean.  The site offers a video and interactive kitchen with a quiz about food safety, frequently asked questions, a chance to ask experts questions, and a glossary of terms. Some information is available in Spanish.
Meals for You Searchable recipe site.  Offerings include Complete Meal Plans by Category, Individual Recipes by Category,  Our Most Popular Recipes, Recipes by Ingredient, Recipes by Nutritional Content, Recipes by Course, Look Up Dietary Exchange Information, and Frequently Asked Questions.
NIH Office of Dietary Supplements Search the International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS), a database of published, international, scientific literature on dietary supplements, including vitamins, minerals, and botanicals. IBIDS is produced by the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) at the National Institutes of Health  to assist the public, health care providers, educators, and researchers in locating credible, scientific information on dietary supplements.
Nutrition.gov  This federal resource is a guide offering easy access to all government Web sites with reliable and accurate information on nutrition and dietary guidance. It provides information on prevention of food-related diseases (diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity, etc.), the food pyramid, food labels, health management, recipes, and other topics.
Spice Guide  
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) This is "an international nonprofit weight loss support group," in existence since 1948, which does not sell or  promote any particular products.  Archives has articles back to December 1997 which offer encouragement, recipes, health tips, and success stories. You can search for local chapters with a zip code.
Vegetarian Times The website of this vegetarian magazine contains recipes and nutrition information.
Veggie Living: the Guide to Vegetarian and Vegan Information Info on why and how to live the vegetarian life, as well as health information, articles, recipes, a glossary, etc.

Includes laws and regulations, support services, full-text publications, and links to organizations.
